A 22-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh, Lavkush Prajapati, was arrested for attempting to gain admission into AIIMS Bhopal using forged documents, police said on Thursday.
A resident of Kishanpur village in Kanpur, Prajapati had reportedly failed to clear NEET with a qualifying rank since 2021. Under intense family pressure, he allegedly decided to forge his way into the prestigious medical institute.
Prajapati downloaded a genuine Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) allotment letter in PDF format, studied its layout, and used Photoshop to alter the details. He replaced the original candidate’s name, roll number, and photograph with his own, fabricating a score of 630 marks and an All India Rank (AIR) of 284—credentials belonging to a student already admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
On August 25, he submitted the fake documents at the registrar’s office at AIIMS Bhopal. However, during verification, officials found inconsistencies in his paperwork and detained him.
Upon cross-checking with the MCC database, it was confirmed that the roll number and marks were fraudulent. Following this, Bagsewania police were informed. A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Prashant Kumar Mishra, an assistant clerk at the institute.
Police in-charge Amit Soni confirmed Prajapati’s arrest and stated that he has been remanded to two days’ police custody for further interrogation. Charges of cheating and forgery under relevant IPC sections have been filed.
