by Sophia Bennett

A Mobile woman has been arrested after police say she failed to return a rental vehicle for nearly two months. Officers with the Mobile Police Department spotted a 2024 Ford Transit U-Haul van around 8 p.m. Tuesday near Government Street. The van had been reported stolen.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered 36-year-old Latasha Hollis inside. Investigators determined that Hollis had originally rented the van on July 11, 2025, but failed to return it by the agreed-upon deadline.

After confirming the vehicle’s stolen status, officers arrested Hollis at the scene. She was charged with theft by fraudulent lease or rental, a crime involving the unlawful possession of rented property through deception or failure to return.

Hollis was transported to Metro Jail, where she remains in custody pending a bond hearing.
