SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) — A Sherman woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges following the death of her dog from a heat stroke while she was out of town in August 2024.
According to the Sherman Police Department, 37-year-old Lashae Kubena was charged after officers responded to a home on Sherbrooke Place where a dog was reported to be tied up in direct sunlight.
Police said Kubena initially claimed someone was scheduled to check on her dogs but allegedly refused to let animal control inspect the animals in the backyard. When officers returned later that day, they discovered the dog tied up without access to water or shade.
A necropsy confirmed the dog had died due to heat stroke.
Kubena was arrested and released on Saturday after posting a $3,000 bond.
