Larry Richmond Found Guilty in Evansville Firefighter Murder

Verdict comes after 3-day trial in Vanderburgh County

A Vanderburgh County jury has found 46-year-old Larry Richmond guilty on all counts in the 2019 murder of Evansville firefighter Robert Doerr, authorities said.

The verdict came late Wednesday night following a three-day trial. Court proceedings earlier in the day confirmed that the defense had rested, and final arguments were presented before the jury began deliberating around 12:30 p.m.

During the trial, only two witnesses were called by the defense. Prosecutors presented testimony from Richmond’s son, Larry Richmond Jr., who admitted to taking what is believed to be the murder weapon from a pawn shop at his father’s request. Letters exchanged between Richmond and his son were also presented in court.

Richmond’s ex-fiancée, Amanda Fillmore, testified that she was suspicious of Richmond the night of the murder, stating that he claimed to be at his parents’ house while his parents said he was out running errands.

Police also presented phone records showing 15 calls between Richmond and Elizabeth Fox-Doerr, who had been scheduled to testify but was released from her subpoena due to concerns about the professionalism of her defense counsel.

During the trial, it was noted that Fox-Doerr had received a condolence card from Richmond at Robert Doerr’s funeral, containing a note signed “Larry” with a phone number and the message, “We need to talk.”

Richmond was convicted on all charges and is awaiting sentencing.
