Albany County, NY — Two men are facing felony attempted murder charges following a targeted shooting early Sunday morning that left a woman injured in the Town of Rensselaerville.
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple announced the arrests of Lane J. Stannard, 24, of Berne, and Joel M. Keeny, 24, of Medusa, after an investigation linked them to a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting.
At approximately 1:10 a.m., deputies initially responded to a home on Sickle Hill Road in the Town of Berne after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. The female victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, told authorities she was driving when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire with a .223 caliber rifle.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of State Route 85 and County Route 6. Multiple rounds struck the victim’s vehicle — one narrowly missing her by passing through the headrest. Another struck her in the arm.
“Regrettably, one of the rounds struck the female operator, who received treatment in the early morning hours and has since been discharged from the hospital,” said Sheriff Apple.
The suspects fled the scene but were located in Massachusetts shortly after, where Sheriff’s Investigators took them into custody.
The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and later released.
Stannard and Keeny are both charged with:
Second-degree Attempted Murder (Felony)
Fourth-degree Conspiracy (Felony)
Fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon (Misdemeanor)
They were scheduled for arraignment in Town of Rensselaerville Court on Sunday.
