A 31-year-old man, Irshad, was arrested for allegedly murdering his tenant, Tamanney, in northwest Delhi’s Subhash Place after suspecting him of hacking his phone and stealing from his footwear factory.
Tamanney, a resident of Shakarpur, worked at a factory on Lawrence Road. On November 9, he visited the Subhash Place police station with two friends, claiming that Irshad had assaulted him. He collapsed shortly after filing the complaint and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
During the investigation, a colleague revealed that Tamanney had not been coming to work since November 4. When he returned to his residence, he said that he and his roommate had been confined in Irshad’s room for two days, during which they were allegedly beaten over a rent dispute. Medical tests showed internal bleeding. The roommate reportedly fled to his village in Madhubani, Bihar.
Police launched raids across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, including Etah, Kasganj, and Aligarh, before tracing Irshad to Rohini, where he was arrested on November 11.
During questioning, Irshad admitted to assaulting the tenants, claiming suspicions that they had hacked his phone to delete evidence linked to a theft at his Wazirpur Industrial Area factory. He also alleged they had stolen rare coins.
A case has been registered under Section 302 (murder), and the investigation is ongoing.
