Indianapolis, Ind. — Lamone Lauderdale, 37, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after being convicted for possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances and carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. This was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana on Wednesday.
The charges stem from an incident on January 19, 2022, when Lauderdale was pulled over by a Zionsville police officer for speeding. During the stop, a K-9 unit alerted officers to the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle. When officers attempted to remove Lauderdale from the vehicle, he fled the scene, triggering a high-speed chase. After hitting two vehicles and a median, Lauderdale stopped and attempted to flee on foot, but officers later apprehended him.
Although Lauderdale was no longer carrying the bag at the time of his arrest, a search of the area led officers to the abandoned black bag. Inside, they discovered 170 grams of methamphetamine, 60 grams of fentanyl, 111 grams of cocaine, a pill press, a digital scale, a 9mm handgun, and 11 rounds of ammunition. Further inspection of Lauderdale’s vehicle revealed an additional 22 grams of methamphetamine, another digital scale, a second handgun, and five rounds of ammunition.
“This case is another example of how traffickers, armed with deadly weapons, threaten our communities. We will continue to work diligently to remove these criminals from our streets,” said John E. Childress, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
Lauderdale’s conviction underscores the seriousness of trafficking in dangerous substances like fentanyl and methamphetamine, both of which continue to plague communities across the country.
