Kalaburagi: Police in Kalaburagi district have arrested Lalasab Abdul Saab Goundi for allegedly strangling his wife, Mashaq Begum (38), to death and burying her body in a sugarcane field in Bhusanur village under Nimbarga police station limits. The murder reportedly took place on October 31, but came to light only on Tuesday.
Mashaq Begum, a resident of Koralli village in Alanda taluk, and Lalasab were married and had three children. Lalasab, who leased 20 acres near Bhusanur village, lived with his family on the leased land.
Police stated that Lalasab was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with another woman in the village, which led to frequent quarrels with his wife. According to SP Adduru Srinivasulu, during interrogation, the accused confessed that he had fought with his wife on October 31 and strangled her to death using her sari. He then buried her body in the sugarcane field and later spread false information that she had gone missing, even filing a complaint with the police.
Suspicious of their daughter’s disappearance, Mashaq Begum’s parents lodged a complaint, prompting a swift investigation. Police quickly traced the crime back to Lalasab, leading to his arrest.
The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody. SP Addur Srinivasulu, DSP Tammaraya Patil, CPI Prakash Yatanur, and PSI Indumati visited the scene and conducted an inspection of the area.
