In a joint operation, the Detective Department (DD) of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate and the Trishakti Corps Military Intelligence (Sukna Division) arrested another key accused in connection with the fake birth and death certificate racket linked to Kharibari Rural Hospital.

The arrested individual has been identified as Lalan Kumar Ojha (35), a resident of the Putimari area in Bagdogra. Acting on a tip-off, officials conducted a raid on Wednesday night and apprehended Ojha from his residence. During the search, police recovered several fake birth and death certificates, along with forged Aadhaar and PAN cards and other incriminating documents.

According to investigators, Ojha was caught through a decoy operation — police personnel posing as customers approached him for a fake certificate. When he agreed to create one, officers arrested him red-handed.

The case is part of a larger investigation into an organized network involved in the illegal issuance of fake birth and death certificates from Kharibari Rural Hospital. Reports indicate that the accused used backdated entries to make the forged certificates appear genuine.

Authorities believe that the racket may have been operational for months and suspect the involvement of other individuals linked to local administrative offices. Further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the forgery network.
