In a significant breakthrough, the Thane Rural Police have arrested a woman accused of stealing gold ornaments from a commuter’s purse at the Murbad bus stand in December 2024. Police recovered gold weighing approximately 9 tolas from the accused.
The Theft Incident
The incident occurred on December 21, 2024, when the complainant, Sarikha Sanjay Ghude, was waiting at the Murbad bus stand to board a bus to Sargaon en route to her native place, Mulgaoni Umbarpada. At around 5:30 pm, as passengers rushed to board the Sargaon-bound bus, an unidentified person allegedly took advantage of the crowd, opened her purse chain, and stole the gold ornaments kept inside.
Following the complaint, Murbad Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Indian Penal Code (Crime No. 322/2024).
Police Investigation and Arrest
Taking note of rising property-related offences in the district, Dr. D.S. Swamy directed the Local Crime Branch to conduct a parallel investigation. Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Gite formed multiple teams of subordinate officers to probe the case.
Through sustained efforts, technical analysis, and confidential informant inputs, the police traced the accused to Mumbai. Lakshmi Kisan Jadhav, a resident of Bhandup, was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, Jadhav allegedly confessed to the theft. Police recovered the 9 tolas of stolen gold from her possession.
Further Investigation
The accused remains in custody while Police Inspector Sonawane continues the investigation to determine if she is involved in similar offences.
