TAVARES, Fla. — A traffic stop in Tavares on Thursday morning resulted in the arrest of Richard Coulter, 52, of Leesburg, on charges related to drug trafficking. Coulter was pulled over when his Dodge Charger veered over the fog line on northbound U.S. Hwy. 441.
When a deputy asked Coulter for permission to search the vehicle, he refused. A K-9, however, alerted to the presence of drugs, prompting a search. The search uncovered a black-zippered case hidden in the engine compartment, which contained 27.85 grams of methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, a digital scale, and numerous small plastic bags.
Coulter was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Lake County Jail, with a bond set at $38,000.
