Ashland, KY – A routine traffic stop late Monday night in Boyd County led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of over $6,500 worth of illegal drugs, according to authorities.
LaJuan M. Wilkerson, 38, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Amber D. Clark, 46, of Barlett, Illinois, were both charged with drug trafficking after deputies found significant quantities of narcotics in their vehicle.
The stop took place along 13th Street in Ashland. According to deputies, Clark was behind the wheel when pulled over, while Wilkerson attempted to flee the scene after allegedly providing a false identity. He was captured after a short foot pursuit and was found carrying both cash and crack cocaine.
A search of the vehicle revealed:
52.5 grams of methamphetamine
25.5 grams of fentanyl
5.5 grams of cocaine
1 gram of crack cocaine
Drug paraphernalia
Deputies estimate the street value of the drugs to be more than $6,500.
Wilkerson was charged with:
Drug trafficking
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Wanton endangerment
Identity theft
Fleeing law enforcement
Resisting arrest
Clark faces charges of:
Drug trafficking
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Careless driving
Authorities also confirmed Wilkerson had multiple outstanding warrants in Kentucky. Both suspects were booked into jail following the arrest.
