CROWLEY, LA (NEWS 15) – Jaslyn Gordon, 30, of Lafayette, was arrested on Thursday, March 20, in connection to a check fraud scheme involving the City of Crowley. Gordon was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail on charges of theft over $25,000 and monetary instrument abuse, with a bond set at $125,000.
According to Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert, the arrest follows an extensive investigation that began after a fraudulent check was discovered during the City of Crowley General Fund reconciliation in March 2024. Mayor Chad Monceaux had contacted the Chief’s office upon learning of the discrepancy. The city’s CPA discovered that two separate checks, both with the same check number, had been cashed in September 2023.
Investigators soon discovered that the original check, issued to Office Mart in Lafayette for $493.58, had been stolen and altered. The fraudulent check was then cashed for an amount of $78,492.94, and the money was deposited into a personal bank account.
The investigation eventually led authorities to Jaslyn Gordon, and warrants were issued for her arrest. The Louisiana Legislative Auditor confirmed that the altered check amounted to a theft of $78,492.94, but through a bond insurance policy linked to the previous city clerk, $70,000 was recovered. The city ultimately incurred a loss of $7,999 from the fraudulent check.
Gordon faces serious charges and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
