Controversial social media personality Lady Aghori has been arrested by Hyderabad police in connection with a Rs10 lakh fraud case involving alleged “nude rituals” used to manipulate and extort a woman seeking help for personal and financial issues.
The arrest took place near the Uttar Pradesh–Madhya Pradesh border, just days after Lady Aghori made headlines for her unconventional wedding to a woman named Varshini. The couple, based in Uttar Pradesh, has since been brought to Hyderabad for questioning.
The case originated from a complaint filed by a woman from Proddutur mandal in Shankarpalli, Ranga Reddy district. According to the FIR, the victim was lured into trusting Lady Aghori after months of phone conversations and a personal meeting at Pragati Resorts. Aghori allegedly offered to perform a powerful spiritual ritual to resolve the woman’s troubles.
The victim initially transferred Rs5 lakh, and was later taken to Ujjain for a “ritual.” Another Rs5 lakh was demanded under the pretense that the ritual would fail without it. Fearing the consequences, the woman complied. When another demand for Rs5 lakh followed with threats, she approached the police.
Investigators are now probing whether more people may have been scammed in similar fashion. Both Lady Aghori and Varshini are being questioned, and further developments are expected soon.
