Wilmington, DE — Delaware State Police arrested 44-year-old Kyrob Smith of New Castle after a failed traffic stop on August 20 led to a foot chase and the recovery of drugs and weapons.

Officers spotted Smith driving a Chevrolet Malibu with expired registration around 11 p.m. on Northeast Boulevard. When ordered to stop, Smith fled until reaching the 1000 block of East 24th Street, where he exited the vehicle and ran on foot.

Smith ignored commands to halt and ran into a nearby residence belonging to an acquaintance. During a struggle inside, officers discovered Smith was armed with a loaded .40 caliber handgun. After resisting arrest and reaching for his waistband multiple times, Smith was subdued with a Taser.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, approximately 45 doses of MDMA, 30 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Smith faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm during a felony, possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, carrying concealed weapons, resisting arrest with force, and traffic offenses.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $40,850 secured bond.
