Kyria Latham Arrested for Smuggling Drugs into Elmore Prison

Charged with promoting contraband and trafficking fentanyl

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Authorities arrested 25-year-old Kyria Latham on Sunday after she allegedly attempted to smuggle multiple prohibited items into Elmore Correctional Facility during visitation hours.

Latham was detained when body scanners revealed concealed packages on her person. A subsequent search recovered the following:

46 grams of fentanyl

95 pills containing oxycodone and hydrocodone

6 grams of sprayed paper

55 grams of synthetic cannabinoids

4 Apple iPhones

Latham now faces charges of Promoting Prison Contraband in the first and second degree, as well as Trafficking Fentanyl. She is currently held at Elmore County Jail.

The Alabama Department of Corrections stated the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
