Kyle Skinner Sentenced to Life for Heroin Trafficking in Cherokee

Convicted Trafficker Faces Life Sentence Amid Prior Felonies

by Sophia Bennett

Kyle Erwin Skinner has been sentenced to life imprisonment following his conviction for heroin trafficking in Cherokee County, announced District Attorney Summer Summerford.

The case began on June 29, 2022, when officers from the Cedar Bluff Police Department stopped Skinner for riding a motorcycle at high speed. Officers detected the smell of alcohol and, with Skinner’s consent, searched his backpack, finding empty alcoholic beverages and drug paraphernalia. Skinner was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

During processing, officials found a trafficking quantity of heroin concealed on Skinner’s person.

Skinner appeared before Judge Andrew Hairston in Cherokee County Circuit Court on April 17, 2025, for a pre-trial hearing, where he pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking. Due to multiple prior felony convictions in Georgia, Skinner was sentenced to life in prison.

“Illegal drugs continue to ruin families and take lives,” said District Attorney Summerford. “Please continue to talk to your children and grandchildren about the dangers of drug use. Beyond the risk of death, it can also lead to spending the best years of their lives incarcerated.”

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Brady Burns.
