A Morris County jury has convicted Kyle Meyer, 35, in connection with the brutal 2023 Christmas Eve murder of his father.
Officials announced the verdict on Dec. 15, 2025, following a seven-day trial. The homicide occurred on Dec. 24, 2023, at a residence on Old Denville Road. Officers responding to an emergency call at approximately 1:15 p.m. found 61-year-old Gregory Meyer deceased inside the home he shared with his son.
Investigators quickly identified Kyle Meyer as the primary suspect. He was located and detained later that evening around 9:00 p.m. in Paterson.
An autopsy conducted by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death as blood loss from multiple injuries, officially ruling the death a homicide.
Key to the prosecution’s case was linking a battery-operated pole saw to Meyer. Investigators demonstrated that the tool was used to inflict the fatal injuries on Gregory Meyer.
The jury convicted Meyer on all counts, including:
First-degree murder
Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon
Judge Ralph E. Amirata scheduled sentencing for Feb. 6, 2026. Under New Jersey law, a first-degree murder conviction carries a potential sentence of 30 years to life.
Meyer will remain in custody until the sentencing hearing.
