Mesa County – Several individuals were recently arrested in separate incidents across Mesa County involving motor vehicle theft, DUI offenses, and burglary, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Stolen Vehicle Crash Leads to Arrest

Authorities reported that Kyle Hayhurst, 35, of Grand Junction, was arrested at a local hospital after deputies discovered he had allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle earlier in the day.

Deputies initially received a report about a stolen car on Thursday. While searching for the vehicle, they learned it had already been towed from a crash scene by the Colorado State Patrol.

A trooper had previously issued Hayhurst a summons for DUI, speeding, and other traffic violations. Deputies later located him at a hospital receiving treatment for injuries related to the crash. After he was medically cleared, he was arrested on charges of second-degree motor vehicle theft and failure to appear.

Driver with Prior DUI Convictions Arrested

In another case, deputies stopped David Behana Cervantes, 23, of Westminster, around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of 29 1/4 Road in Grand Junction.

Authorities discovered Cervantes had two prior DUI convictions. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility.

He now faces multiple charges including DUI, open container in a motor vehicle, driving under restraint (alcohol), improper turn, and driving without headlamps.

Erratic Driving Leads to DUI Arrest

Later that night, deputies responded to a call about a possible intoxicated driver. Around midnight Friday, officers stopped an erratic vehicle in the 3200 block of F Road.

The driver, identified as Jayla Chavez, 22, of Mesa County, was arrested and booked into the detention facility. She faces charges of DUI, failing to display headlights, and failing to maintain a single lane.

Burglary Suspect Arrested in Mack

In a separate incident, deputies worked with the Fruita Police Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife after responding to a burglary in progress around 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of 10 Road in Mack.

The homeowner reported that a neighbor had entered his home without permission. The suspect, Nathan Folkestad, 40, of Mack, was arrested without incident.

Folkestad was booked on charges of second-degree burglary of a dwelling, third-degree assault, and failure to appear.

The sheriff’s office noted that cooperation among agencies, including the Colorado State Patrol, helps ensure quick responses to incidents across the county.
