The Delhi Police have busted a major admission fraud syndicate, arresting two individuals and seizing Rs1.34 crore in unaccounted cash. The accused had been duping parents by posing as admission consultants for reputed Delhi colleges and universities.
The arrested individuals were identified as Kushagra Shrivastava (35), a BTech graduate, and Chinmaya Sinha (32), a commerce graduate — both residents of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh, the accused sent bulk SMS messages to unsuspecting parents, offering college admissions under the “management quota” in exchange for hefty sums of money. After collecting the payments, they would shut down their office operations and vanish.
The investigation began after a Delhi Police head constable lodged a complaint stating she received a message offering her son admission in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. She was directed to an office in Nehru Place by a woman named Lavanya, where she paid Rs2.3 lakh. Shortly after, the accused switched off their phones and vacated the premises.
A case was registered on August 25 at the Cyber Police Station in Dwarka. Preliminary inquiries revealed 31 similar complaints had already been filed against the group at the Kalkaji police station, which were later transferred to the Economic Offences Wing.
During raids in Indirapuram, the suspects were apprehended and police recovered:

The Income Tax Department has been alerted regarding the cash seizure. Investigations are ongoing to uncover their wider network and potential ties to interstate gangs.
