Kumkio Leftha Martin, 31, of Chesterfield, Virginia, has been sentenced to 12 years and three months in federal prison for his role in a series of armed robberies in the Richmond area, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced on March 25.
Martin pleaded guilty on November 12, 2024, to armed robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence in connection with a robbery that occurred on May 4, 2023, at a tobacco store in Richmond. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Martin entered the store, pointed a firearm at an employee, and demanded money and vaping products. His girlfriend was reportedly present during the robbery.
Approximately two minutes after Martin fled, a four-door Acura with distinctive stickers on the rear passenger windows drove by the store, matching the description of the suspect vehicle. This vehicle was later linked to Martin’s girlfriend, who had registered it. Authorities traced the car to an earlier robbery on April 22, 2023, on Dunston Avenue in Richmond, where two victims were held at gunpoint.
The next day, Martin committed another robbery at a Chesterfield convenience store, again using a firearm to demand money and cigarettes from victims. Surveillance footage captured a vehicle resembling the Acura at the scene.
A felony traffic stop on Martin led to the recovery of the suspect vehicle, and a search of his girlfriend’s residence uncovered the firearm used in the May 4 robbery.
As part of his plea agreement, Martin also admitted to committing the April 23, 2023, robbery in Richmond.
Martin is now facing a significant sentence, with a total of 12 years and three months in federal prison for his crimes.
