The Barnala police have solved the mysterious disappearance of three family members from Sekha village, uncovering a chilling case of triple murder. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam confirmed that the deceased have been identified as Kiranjit Kaur (45), a widow, her daughter Sukhchainpreet Kaur (25), and her son Harmanjit Singh (22).
The bodies of Kiranjit and Sukhchainpreet were recovered from a canal in Sirsa, Haryana, while efforts are ongoing to locate Harmanjit’s body. According to SSP Alam, the prime accused, Kulwant Singh alias Kanti, a resident of the same village and a close acquaintance of Kiranjit, has been arrested and confessed to the crime.
Investigations revealed that Kulwant Singh had allegedly misappropriated ₹20 lakh from the sale of Kiranjit’s land. When she began demanding her money back, he planned to eliminate the family. On the night of October 26, Kulwant lured the victims under the pretext of visiting the Mata Naina Devi shrine. On their return, he persuaded them to stop near the Bhakra canal in Patiala for religious offerings. There, he allegedly pushed all three into the canal, causing their deaths.
A case has been registered under Sections 140(1) and 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Barnala Sadar Police Station. The SSP stated that investigations continue to reconstruct the full sequence of events and recover the missing body.
