In a recent development, police have arrested Kuldeep Singh, a Punjab resident, for allegedly defrauding a Mumbai-based individual of approximately Rs2 lakh in a fake visa and travel scam.
Singh, who operated under the alias Gurjeet Kaur, lured victims through a fraudulent social media page titled “Fly to Abroad.” The page promised discounted Australian visas and flight tickets, attracting unsuspecting individuals looking for quick and affordable immigration options.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani, Singh targeted Khemchand Borwal, a Mumbai resident, and convinced him of a genuine visa arrangement. After issuing a fake Australian visa, Singh arranged to meet the victim at IGI Airport in Delhi, where he collected the payment in person.
Suspicions arose when the victim discovered the visa was counterfeit. A formal complaint was filed, prompting a cross-regional investigation. Police eventually tracked Singh’s movements to Chennai, where he was apprehended.
During questioning, Singh admitted to using the fraudulently acquired funds for his own international travel. Authorities are now investigating the full extent of his operations, including possible accomplices and additional victims he may have deceived using similar tactics.
The case sheds light on a growing trend of social media-based immigration scams, where fraudsters use fake profiles and pages to lure victims with false promises of jobs and visas abroad.
