Police have made a significant breakthrough in the Ishita Mullik murder case with the arrest of Kuldeep Singh, the maternal uncle of the accused Deshraj Singh. Kuldeep is charged with aiding Deshraj’s escape and providing shelter after the brutal killing.
Kuldeep, 43, a resident of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from a hideout in Jamnagar, Gujarat, where he had fled following the discovery of his involvement by police. He was produced before a local court in Jamnagar, which granted a four-day transit remand.
On Sunday morning, Kuldeep was flown to Dum Dum Airport and then taken to Krishnanagar for questioning. A senior police officer confirmed, “He is currently being interrogated for details of his role in helping Deshraj evade arrest.” Kuldeep is expected to be produced in a Krishnanagar court on Monday.
Investigations revealed that after the murder of Ishita Mullik on August 25 at her Manikpara residence in Krishnanagar, Deshraj fled to Deoria via Howrah, Barakar, and Asansol. As the police closed in, Kuldeep allegedly arranged travel tickets, lodging, and other logistics to facilitate Deshraj’s escape.
An official police statement said, “Evidence of assistance by Kuldeep Singh in the escape of Deshraj Singh has been found.”
In a related development, police have dispatched a team to Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, to interrogate Deshraj’s father, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, a BSF jawan, in connection with the murder investigation.
