The crime branch on Wednesday evening detained a man from Nana Peth in connection with the murder of Ayush Komkar. A senior police official told TOI that during the investigation, the suspect’s name emerged, prompting officers to visit his home and take him in for questioning. Authorities suspect he supplied the firearm used by the Andekar gang members before the killing.
On Tuesday morning, Krushna Andekar, son of gangster Suryakant “Bandu” Andekar and the last of 13 suspects in Ayush’s revenge murder, surrendered to Samarth police. He was later produced before a special MCOCA court. Police revealed that alleged shooter Aman Pathan and his backup Sujal Meragu claimed Krushna provided the weapon used in the crime.
Additionally, police have seized two mobile phones and other valuables related to the case.
Ayush Komkar, 18, was shot dead in the basement parking of his residence around 7:30 pm on September 5. The murder is believed to be retaliation for the September 1 killing of Bandu Andekar’s son and former NCP corporator, Vanraj.
Before Krushna’s surrender, several arrests were made, including the two alleged shooters Yash Patil and Aman Pathan; backup men Amit Patole and Sujal Meragu; and conspirators Bandu Andekar (70), his daughter Vrundavani Wadekar (40), her sons Tushar (27) and Swaraj (23); along with Bandu’s sister-in-law Laxmi Uadykant Andekar and her three sons Shivam (31), Abhishek (21), and Shivraj (29). Police have recovered two country-made pistols but await ballistic reports to confirm their use in Ayush’s murder.
