Kristopher Callins, 29, was arrested in the early hours of April 1 in Altus after allegedly attempting to break into an ATM with an acetylene torch. Altus police responded to the scene at 4:15 a.m. after a reported burglary on the 1600 block of N. Main St. Upon arrival, police discovered an open door to the ATM entrance and found Callins inside, attempting to cut into the safe.
Officers later located a stolen pickup truck, which contained an acetylene torch believed to have been used by Callins during the burglary attempt. The truck had been taken overnight from the Planters Cooperative Association.
Callins now faces several charges, including second-degree burglary, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and attempt to escape. He may also face federal charges for his involvement in attempted thefts at Frazer Bank and Herring Bank ATMs.
