SULPHUR, La. (VDN) — A Louisiana woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of her 1-year-old daughter on New Year’s night, according to the Sulphur Police Department.
Police arrested Kristin Bass after responding to a shooting at a residence on Quelqueshue Street around 8:21 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2026. Officers found that a 1-year-old child, later identified as Acelynn Moss, had been shot and killed.
The child’s father, Bradley Moss, said he heard a loud noise and rushed into a room where he found Bass holding a firearm. Acelynn had been shot, and the couple’s 2-year-old child was crying and calling for help.
“I almost lost two babies. I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God,” Moss said.
Moss recounted that his older daughter cried out to him during the incident, saying, “Help me, Daddy.” He alleged that Bass told him she had “sent our baby to God” and then said she was going to get the other child.
Following the incident, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the surviving child, according to Moss.
Investigators determined that Bass was responsible for the shooting. She was taken into custody and formally charged with first-degree murder. Her bond has been set at $10 million.
