by Ananya Mehta

The Kaveripattinam police in Krishnagiri district have arrested a man for practising allopathic medicine without any formal qualification. The accused, V Thavamani (56), ran a clinic from his home in Kaveripattinam.

Medical officials had received a complaint alleging that Thavamani had been practising medicine for the past five years without proper credentials. Acting on the complaint, a team led by Dr V Narayanasamy, Chief Medical Officer of Pochampally Government Hospital, inspected the clinic and discovered that Thavamani had only completed Class XII.

Based on Dr Narayanasamy’s complaint, the Kaveripattinam police registered a case and arrested Thavamani on Thursday. He has been remanded in judicial custody.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about unqualified practitioners in rural areas and the importance of regulatory oversight in healthcare services.
