A 36-year-old man, Krishnadas from Parudur, Palakkad, was arrested by Kannamaly police for allegedly cheating a resident by promising to build a house and collecting Rs5.4 lakh in advance.
Krishnadas, who operated a construction firm named D for D, had entered into an agreement on April 1 last year to build a 600 sq ft house on a 2.5-cent plot for Rs11 lakh. The complainant paid the advance amount in multiple instalments into the company’s SBI Aluva branch account, with an assurance that the remaining balance could be paid monthly at Rs10,000 without interest.
However, apart from laying the foundation, no construction work progressed, and Krishnadas neither continued the work nor refunded the money.
After the victim filed a complaint, the police registered a case on May 23 this year. Krishnadas, who had gone into hiding, was arrested at Ongalloor Junction, Palakkad, by a team led by Inspector Abhilash A L.
