Kottayam: Nearly a year after his disappearance, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has arrested Akhil C. Varghese, the prime accused in a pension fund fraud case at the Kottayam municipal office.
Akhil had been absconding since last August, after allegedly embezzling funds. Investigations revealed that he orchestrated a scheme to defraud the municipal pension system by creating fraudulent documents to siphon off family pension funds.
The case was initially investigated by the Crime Branch before being transferred to the VACB. Akhil was finally apprehended by a VACB team in Kollam, and further inquiry is ongoing to determine if others were involved in the fraud network.
