Kothanur police have solved a theft case and arrested a Bachelor of Commerce student, Sachitha, along with three friends, for stealing gold valuables worth Rs65 lakh from her uncle’s house earlier this year. The stolen gold was reportedly used to fund a Goa trip and investment plans for her male friend.

Sachitha, who was staying at her uncle’s residence to pursue her studies, stole the valuables in May. She handed them over to her classmate and friend Yeshwanth, who was also pursuing BCom at a private college.

Yeshwanth then gave the gold to his friends Tanush and Ramprakash to sell and convert into cash.

Part of the gold was melted and sold to parties in Goa, while some of the proceeds were used by Yeshwanth for future investment plans.

The theft came to light in June when Srinivas, the owner of the house, noticed the valuables missing on June 9. Suspecting domestic help, he filed a complaint.

Following the complaint, police questioned the domestic help and then confronted Sachitha. During detailed questioning, she confessed to the theft.

Based on her confession, police arrested Yeshwanth and two of his friends and recovered the stolen valuables.

Srinivas requested police not to pursue the case further, fearing damage to the family’s reputation.

The prime accused have been produced before the court and granted bail, while the other two have been sent to judicial custody.
