In a swift and coordinated operation, Kota police under the Brahmavar sub-division arrested two repeat offenders, Imran alias Kuttu and Irshad, for stealing a cow near the Bidkalkatte market.
The theft came to light when Jayaprakash Shetty, a resident of Hardalli Mandalli village, received a video showing three masked men forcibly dragging a sleeping cow at around 3:50 am on July 19. The men tied the animal’s neck with a rope and loaded it into an SUV before fleeing towards Shiroor.
Acting on the complaint, the police filed a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. A team led by Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna and SI Raghavendra C, with constables Sridhar and Raghavendra, quickly tracked down the suspects.
Imran, from Pudu in Bantwal taluk, has a criminal record with 35 cases, including cow slaughter, theft, rioting, and attempted murder across multiple districts. Irshad, from Ganjimutt, also has a history of 14 cases in areas including Chikkamagaluru and Mangaluru city. The SUV used in the crime was confiscated.
The police continue their investigation into the case.
