Anakapalle district police successfully solved a major theft case in Munagapaka mandal within just four days. District Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha, informed the media on Friday that the stolen property had been fully recovered.
The incident occurred on February 15, during Maha Shivaratri, when Karanam Umavathi of Munagapaka mandal left her house locked. Unknown individuals took advantage of the situation and stole 17.5 tholas of gold from her residence.
Following her complaint, Munagapaka police registered a case, and special teams were formed under the supervision of Parawada DSP V Vishnu Swarup to apprehend the accused. The investigation led to the arrest of Kona Rajesh (23), a resident of Anakapalli Town, at Kokkirapalli junction on February 19.
Police revealed that Kona Rajesh is a repeat offender with several past cases of house breaking and theft registered at Anakapalli Town Police Station. During the recovery operation, authorities seized 16.5 tholas (192.3 grams) of gold ornaments, with an estimated market value of Rs 30.39 lakh.
SP Tuhin Sinha highlighted that such quick recoveries demonstrate the effectiveness of the district police’s strong measures, significantly improving the recovery rate in theft cases.
