Kolkata Police have successfully busted a cyber fraud gang allegedly involved in stock market scams, duping investors out of lakhs of rupees. Four individuals were arrested in connection with the fraud on Saturday.

The mastermind of the operation, Atish Dipankar Dutta (44), was arrested from the Sreebhumi area in Lake Town. Two other accused, Rajat Dey (35) and Kajal Das (56), were tracked through their bank accounts and arrested from Phoolbagan and Baguiati, respectively. The fourth individual, Adit Sarkar (22) from New Town, was also arrested.

The case dates back to June 6, when a resident of New CIT Road filed a complaint with the police. The complainant reported being duped of Rs 9.2 lakh by a group of individuals who operated through a fake mobile app. They created a WhatsApp group and showed forged documents on the letterhead of an American multinational investment bank and SEBI, promising high returns on stock investments. The victim, trusting the promises, invested the money, only to be scammed.

The police had initially arrested Mayank Daga (41) from Nimtolla Ghat Street on July 31, who was in custody until August 10. During questioning, Daga revealed the names of his accomplices, leading to the subsequent arrests of the other suspects.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to uncover more details of the fraudulent operation.
