Kohima Police have arrested 28-year-old Kevichutuo Cüze in connection with the theft of 675 grams of heroin from a court evidence storage facility, marking a significant breakthrough in a case raising serious judicial security concerns.
Cüze was taken into custody on June 13 after a three-month investigation into the March 22 break-in at the Prosecution Inspector’s Court evidence room. The theft occurred during early morning hours when thieves stole 45 soap cases containing suspected heroin held as court evidence.
The burglary, between 1:00 am and 2:00 am, revealed security flaws that could affect ongoing drug prosecutions. The stolen narcotics have significant street value and jeopardize cases relying on physical evidence.
The investigation team, led by SDPO (North) Kohima Sheta Lohe, tracked down Cüze, who is now in judicial custody. Police are working to identify others involved in what officials describe as an attack on judicial integrity.
Kohima Police continue efforts to recover the heroin and find accomplices, emphasizing their commitment to prosecuting those responsible.
