Koh-e-Fiza police on Friday arrested a domestic help and her fiancé for allegedly stealing 70 grams of gold jewellery worth around Rs 6 lakh from a house in Housing Board Colony. After the theft, the accused handed over the stolen jewellery to her fiancé to sell.
Yasir Ahmed Qureshi, a resident of Housing Board Colony, filed a complaint on August 4 reporting that four gold bangles and two bracelets were missing from his wardrobe. During questioning, Yasir and his wife suspected their domestic help, Tanya Bhargava, who had worked at their home for five years and cared for their infant.
When questioned, Tanya initially denied the theft but later admitted to handing the jewellery to her fiancé, Ashish Turankar, a resident of Nagpur. A police team tracked down Ashish in Nagpur and arrested him, recovering the stolen jewellery.
Tanya, who had earned the trust of the family over the years, betrayed them by stealing the valuable items and involving her fiancé in an attempt to sell them. Koh-e-Fiza police are continuing further legal action against both suspects.
