A 37-year-old man from Kancheepuram district, wanted in multiple job fraud cases across Tamil Nadu, was arrested by customs officials at Nagapattinam port while allegedly attempting to flee to Sri Lanka by ferry.
The accused, Kirubakaran, a resident of Prem Nagar, Pozhichalur, is a history-sheeter with a long trail of complaints registered against him. He is accused of cheating several youth across the state by promising overseas job placements, primarily by collecting advance payments and then disappearing.
Multiple police stations in Tamil Nadu had registered cases amounting to several crores of rupees against Kirubakaran for defrauding job aspirants. Acting on intelligence inputs, customs officials intercepted him at the port just as he was preparing to board a ferry to Sri Lanka.
Authorities have taken him into custody and are coordinating with police departments statewide for further investigation. His arrest is expected to aid ongoing probes into several employment scams affecting hundreds of job seekers.
