KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A Kirksville man, 36-year-old Cyle Curtis Kelly, has been arrested and faces multiple criminal charges following a home break-in and assault early Wednesday morning.
According to the Kirksville Police Department, Kelly has been charged with felony first-degree assault, burglary, attempted first-degree rape, and two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree assault.
The incident occurred just after 1:15 a.m. in the 700 block of South 6th Street. Police officers, responding to screams coming from inside a home, entered the residence and found Kelly on top of a 20-year-old woman, who was unconscious and trapped in a chokehold.
Officers quickly removed the woman from the bedroom and provided first aid, stabilizing her until emergency medical services arrived. She was then transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Kelly, who was not a resident of the home, had unlawfully entered before assaulting the woman. He is currently being held at the Adair County jail pending further legal proceedings.
