A 23-year-old Kirkby man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison following a violent assault on Christmas Day 2023 that left his victim with life-changing facial injuries.
On December 25, Joseph Cardwell, from Ambleside Drive, Tower Hill, Kirkby, attacked a man in his 40s during a gathering at a party. The incident escalated from a verbal disagreement to physical violence, with Cardwell biting the victim on the face, inflicting serious injuries.
The victim, who required hospital treatment and eventually plastic surgery to repair the damage, has been left with long-term effects from the attack.
Cardwell was convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) at Liverpool Crown Court on April 22, 2025. In addition to his 21-month jail sentence, he was also handed a five-year restraining order.
Detective Inspector Darren Hankin commented, “This was a shocking and violent act that left a man permanently scarred. Cardwell’s actions have caused immense suffering to the victim. I hope that while in prison, he reflects on the consequences of his actions.”
