A Kinston man is behind bars after a traffic stop led police to uncover more than 100 grams of cocaine and multiple firearms.
According to the Kinston Police Department, officers stopped 48-year-old Ontario Washington on Thursday along Carey Road for motor vehicle violations. During the stop, officers developed reasonable suspicion of drug activity and requested assistance from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit.
The K9 conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search revealed 135 grams of cocaine, authorities said.
Police then obtained a warrant to search Washington’s residence, where investigators found drug paraphernalia and three firearms.
Washington is now facing multiple charges, including:
Five counts of trafficking in cocaine
Possession of a firearm by a felon
Maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for controlled substances
Possession of drug paraphernalia
He remains in custody at the Lenoir County Jail.
