MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman was arrested after authorities discovered the mummified body of her daughter in a Memphis hotel room.
On July 11, police responded to a call from a hotel employee at Home Inn Suites on Lowrance Road who grew suspicious of 46-year-old Kimberly Moore. Moore claimed her husband owned the hotel and she was there to supervise staff.
However, deputies investigating Moore’s room noted a strong foul odor. When questioned, Moore denied smelling anything. Inside, officers found her daughter, Chloe Moore, lying on the bed in a severely decomposed state — malnourished and partially mummified.
The medical examiner reported that Chloe’s body had been dead for an extended period, surrounded by flies. The drying process had darkened her skin and caused her body to shrink.
Moore refused to give a formal statement, telling officers only that “God is with her and her daughter” and that she “reads her Bible.” Investigators believe Moore may have been experiencing a mental health crisis, reportedly hallucinating that her daughter was still alive.
Moore was arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse and failure to report a death. Authorities have not ruled out criminal intent. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.
