KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – A former executive director of a South Carolina nonprofit has been arrested and charged with stealing more than $184,000 during her tenure, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Kimberly Renee Jordan, 56, was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces multiple charges, including breach of trust and obtaining property under false pretenses.
Jordan previously led Kershaw County First Steps, a local branch of the South Carolina First Steps initiative, which focuses on preparing young children for school success.
According to arrest warrants, Jordan used a nonprofit-issued credit card for personal expenses including groceries, medical bills, and even vacations to Myrtle Beach and Jamaica. She’s also accused of submitting fake invoices to receive reimbursements for purchases that were never made.
SLED investigators say the alleged theft took place between May 2017 and December 2023, totaling $184,485.94 in misappropriated funds.
Jordan was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center following her arrest.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over financial oversight within nonprofit organizations entrusted with public and donor funding.
