A 25-year-old Rome woman, Kilene Lynn Boatner, is facing serious criminal charges after a child in her care was hospitalized for methamphetamine exposure.
Authorities were called to Boatner’s residence on Dodd Boulevard in response to a medical emergency involving a young child. The child was displaying signs consistent with drug ingestion and was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, police allege that Boatner attempted to destroy evidence by trying to flush a bag of suspected meth down the toilet. Officers were able to recover the evidence before it was fully disposed of.
Boatner has been charged with second-degree cruelty to children and tampering with evidence. The child’s current condition has not been disclosed by officials.
The case remains active as investigators work to determine how the child gained access to the drug.
