Two Covington, Alabama, residents have been arrested in Cullman for allegedly targeting elderly individuals in a sophisticated scam operation.
Kevonta Doneterrece Price and Tiffany Carter were taken into custody on Nov. 15 after law enforcement intercepted them while they were reportedly attempting to defraud an elderly woman at a local Walmart.
According to the Cullman Police Department, the suspects had been approaching elderly victims, convincing them to enter a vehicle, and transporting them to various Walmart locations. Once there, the suspects allegedly used the victims’ personal information to fraudulently open AT&T accounts and obtain new iPhones, leaving the victims responsible for substantial bills. In several cases, victims were reportedly left at Walmart without transportation.
Price and Carter are currently charged with second-degree financial exploitation of the elderly and third-degree attempted theft of property. Authorities expect additional charges as the investigation continues.
The Cullman Police Department is urging the community to discuss common scams with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors to prevent further exploitation. The investigation remains ongoing.
