HANCOCK COUNTY, Ill. — A man was arrested Wednesday night after threatening emergency responders and police during a Mississippi River rescue near Warsaw.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, fire and EMS units responded to a report of two individuals in the river near Spring Island. The Keokuk Fire Department stated that a teen had entered the water, prompting a man to follow in an apparent rescue attempt.

During the emergency response, Kevin C. Taylor began verbally threatening EMS personnel and police officers on the scene. Authorities say Taylor then drove a vehicle at high speed toward firefighters, forcing them to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

Taylor fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Hancock County Jail.

Officials confirmed that the teen involved in the incident was found alive and is expected to recover.
