Kevin Proffitt Arrested for Murder of Kirby Proffitt in Johnson County

Man charged with first-degree murder after shooting on Spear Branch Road

JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Kevin Proffitt, 55, on charges of first-degree murder following a fatal shooting on Thursday.

Officers responded to a residence on the 800 block of Spear Branch Road just before 6 p.m. where they found 60-year-old Kirby Proffitt unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts, Kirby Proffitt was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led to the arrest of Kevin Proffitt early Friday morning. He faces one count of first-degree murder and is being held at the Johnson County Jail with a $1 million bond.
