OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – A father-son trust was shattered when Kevin Morris was arrested for identity theft, accused of fraudulently opening six credit cards in his son’s name, racking up more than $60,000 in debt.
Discovery of Fraud
On July 19, 2024, Morris’ son filed a police report after discovering multiple credit card accounts had been opened under his name. The fraudulent accounts, totaling $60,515 in debt, were linked to credit card issuers including:
American Express
Citi Cards
Discover
JP Morgan Chase
Capital One (two accounts)
Upon investigating, the son found an email and P.O. Box linked to his father, confirming suspicions of fraud.
Father’s Admission
Morris admitted to using his son’s identity to open the accounts but claimed it was to build his son’s credit. However, records indicate he used at least $45,000 for his company.
When confronted, Morris urged his son to withdraw the fraud report, promising to “take care of it.” Instead, the son pressed charges.
Arrest & Charges
Authorities visited Morris’ home in Edmond, where he again confessed but claimed he had never missed a payment. He also disclosed plans to move to Georgia at the end of July.
Morris was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on identity theft charges. The case remains under investigation.
