Kerry Malone Sentenced in Killing of David Stark in Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kerry Malone, 55, has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the 2024 death of David Stark.

A Johnson County District Court judge handed down the sentence on Wednesday following Malone’s earlier plea to the amended charge, which alleges he killed 65-year-old Stark on July 18, 2024, “upon a sudden quarrel or in the heat of passion.”

Roeland Park police discovered Stark’s body days later during a welfare check at a home near 49th and Briar. An autopsy by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be “multiple blunt and sharp force” injuries.

Malone was arrested in September 2024 after investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed phone records, blood evidence, and DNA that connected him to the crime scene.
