In a major drug bust in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, police arrested seven individuals, including a doctor and a BDS student, after a joint operation by the Attingal and Nedumangad Rural DANSAF squads.
The arrested have been identified as Dr Vignesh Dathan, BDS student Haleena, Asim, Avinash, Ajith, Ansia, and Harish. Police said Avinash, an IT employee, confirmed that Asim, Ajith, and Ansia have prior cases related to narcotics.
During the raid at a rented house in the Kaniyapuram Thoppil area, officers seized:
4 grams of MDMA
1 gram of hybrid cannabis (sold at Rs 3,000 per gram)
100 grams of ganja
Two cars, two bikes, and ten mobile phones
Investigators said the group had been transporting MDMA and other substances from Bengaluru and distributing them locally, targeting students and doctors.
Police noted that an earlier interception attempt failed when the accused allegedly rammed a police jeep and escaped. Acting on intelligence about their location in Kaniyapuram Thoppil, a police team surrounded the house and arrested all seven.
