Bantwal Town police have arrested Nazir Punnayyar, a resident of Thrissur district, Kerala, on charges of stealing Rs 1 lakh in cash from a passenger at BC Road bus stand.

The victim, Ranganath Bellala from Kundapura, had traveled to BC Road on August 14 carrying Rs 1.60 lakh in cash after selling his car, intending to buy another used vehicle. However, due to document discrepancies, the purchase was not completed, and he stayed overnight at a friend’s house in Kaikamba.

On August 15, while waiting at BC Road bus stand to travel to Kottigehara, Bellala had Rs 1.60 lakh in his pant pocket, including three bundles of Rs 50,000 each and one bundle of Rs 10,000. After boarding the bus, he discovered that Rs 1 lakh — two bundles of Rs 50,000 — were missing.

Bellala promptly reported the theft to Bantwal Town police. Acting quickly, a police team led by Inspector Anantha Padmanabha traced and arrested Nazir in Mangaluru.

Nazir was produced before the court following the arrest, and further investigation is underway.
